How to Watch All the X-Men Movies in Chronological Order

The Fox X-Men universe is somewhat of a mess. It is filled with time travel, a bizarre decision to skip decades with every movie, and flashback and flash-forward movies that occasionally take place in alternate universes. It can be difficult to process the twists and turns of the universe, and it is especially challenging to consider the order of the movies.

While watching the Fox movies in its original release order would be a simpler way to watch them, there is a way to watch them in chronological order. The timeline is somewhat strange, given the retcons and time travel, but it can still be done.

After stumbling withprevious X-Men movies, Fox sought to reset its universe by reintroducing the characters with new actors and a new timeline.X-Men: First Class was the fifth in the Fox X-Men franchise and was released in 2011. The story would take place in 1962 and would feature the true origins of the X-Men. While other movies have scenes that take place earlier in the timeline, the majority of each movie is further along on the timeline than X-Men: First Class.

First Class stood out as the movie that made Magneto truly sympathetic, and it also features an all-star cast that the franchise follows through several more movies. Because it was intended to be a reboot, it actually does serve as a suitable introduction to the universe, though its follow-up wipes away any hope of serving as a true reboot.
